Tatro, a native of Highland, Illinois, was born on June 17, 1870, a son of Philomen and Gene Tatro. His early life was spent in Illinois and Kansas. Coming to Kingman County in 1890, he lived there until 1901 when he took a homestead in Oklahoma, living there for two years. He lived many years in Zenda where he had a dray business. He married Lydia Beatrice Eades in Kingman, February 14, 1898, and to them were born six children: Lewis Eugene, Reatha Beatrice (Edwards), Merl Irene (Mercer), Daniel Chester, Martin, who died in infancy, and Eli Valentine.
